Professional registration with the Engineering Council is an internationally-recognised mark of quality. It demonstrates to employers, clients and the whole of society that you have achieved the standard of competence and commitment established by the engineering profession.
To achieve registration each individual’s competence and commitment is independently and thoroughly assessed through peer review. Academic qualifications are not a requirement - professional registration is open to any competent, practising engineer or technician.
What matters is the standards you've reached, not the route you've taken.
The engineers and technicians who achieve professional registration (registrants) are skilled professionals who have chosen to have their expertise independently verified. They are able to use post nominal letters after their names to show they hold one of these legally protected titles, demonstrating their professional status.
- Engineering Technician (EngTech)
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng)
- Information and Communications Technology Technician (ICTTech)
The first step towards professional registration is joining a Licensed Professional Engineering Institution (PEI) who can provide the information and support you need to complete registration when you're ready.
